Furniture Store
The Charity Furniture Store in Kingsway, Bedford opened in October 2000. This is a recycling project in which we refurbish second-hand furniture and then sell at an affordable price. Skills such as basic woodwork a retailing are learnt on this project. Initially only wooden furniture was accepted, but due to demand we have expanded into soft furnishings and electrical items. The store is open for business Monday to Friday from 9.30 until 4. Purchases are delivered free in the Bedford and Kempston area.
Education and Training
We are now able to offer education and training. The areas we are covering are IT, numeracy, literacy, independent living skills and ASDAN. The IT training is from a very basic level using a course devised ourselves. Numeracy and literacy we do on a one to one basis, which caters to the individual's needs. The 'ASDAN' courses we have chosen to offer are the modular course 'Towards Independence' and 'Workwright'. Towards Independence covers such subjects as Self- advocacy, Coping with people, Self-awareness, Money and other independent living skills. Workwright is a preparation for work course. This course involves interview techniques, work placements and all the skills needed to attain employment. Please give us a call on 01234 352899 or 01234 352887 |
