Education
Many
of our members are very keen to improve their skills and abilities. We
offer them one to one lessons in literacy and numeracy - each person has
their individual needs which we can cater to. We have devised our own
course to teach very basic IT skills.
We
also strive to develop our project members' awareness of other aspects
of life, for example, going to restaurants and sampling all types of foods,
such as Chinese, Mongolian, Indian and Italian.
We
have been granted the money to re-fit and up-date our kitchen to a professional/teaching
standard. This lets us undertake more functions and expand our horizons.
Cooking and working on functions is greatly enjoyed by all those who take
the food and nutrition courses. As you see from the photograph on the
right our buffets are very professional. We also hope that with our new
professional facilities,we'll be able to produce our own label
jams, conserves and preserves for general sale.
There are so many experiences and activities that we all take for granted,
but to many of our project members, they are a new and exciting challenge.
We also offer our members two ASDAN courses:
Towards Independence deals with self-advocacy, coping with people,
self-awareness, money and other independent living skills.
Workwright helps prepare for the world of work, covering interview
techniques, work placements and the skills necessary to attain employment.
