Saturday Club

BGC runs a Saturday Club, which is open to all adults with a learning disability or mental health needs. The idea came from talking to our project members and their carers about what they currently do at weekends. What we discovered was that they were not getting the opportunity to access leisure facilities and not able to spend time with their friends.

The Saturday Club charges are from £12.50 per person per session. This price includes the following:

  • Staff that have experience with working with adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs.
  • A light nutritious afternoon/evening meal
  • Hire of the BGC building for events held at the building.

The Saturday Club is at present unable to provide transport for collecting its members to and from home. The Saturday Club runs from 1pm until 6pm (times may vary depending on the activity, in this case all persons would be contacted well in advance) and meets at the BGC building. We currently do the following events and outings all of which have been suggested by the members themselves. We are always open to any suggestions for activities or events.

  • Bowling,
  • Cinema,
  • Pub Lunches,
  • Swimming,
  • Trips to the Seaside for the day,
  • Quasar,
  • Wicksteed fun park,
  • Canal boat hire,
  • Warwick castle visit,
  • BBQ’s,
  • Bingo,
  • Arts and Crafts,
  • Video and Play station 2
  • Events in and around Bedford such as the River Festival.

The Saturday club members will need to cover the additional costs of outing etc themselves.

The Saturday Club produces a 4-week rota, which is given out to all that are interested. Pre-booking is preferred so that food can be purchased, but is not necessary. All that is required to join is an informal chat, personal questionnaire and the personal details such as emergency contact numbers, address, date of birth etc. For people with mental health or challenging behavioural problems, risk assessments are required for insurance purposes. Please remember the Saturday Club is open to everyone. If you require any other information please contact Zoe on 07795564675 or at BGC on 01234 352899.
